From Melbourne we caught the ferry to Tasmania. We spent the first few days around Ulverstone. Some small car repairs were due and some sightseeing was done. Tasmazia was close by and were supposed to have the biggest (or best?) pancakes in Australia. Unfortunately we found out that they were not the best... but they were quite big.
Next stop was Hobart where our activities included: historic walk, Prince/Princess picture at wharf, Ball 'n Chain steak house, Harbour lunch cruise, Mini golf, Mures Upper Deck fish restaurant (Big seafood platter) and the view from Mt. Wellington.
Port Arthur is an old prison settlement on the Tasman Peninsula (south). Though much of the original site was burned in bushfires there was still enough left to get a good idea of how it had been and looked like. I think i know why it got its reputation as "hell-on-earth"...
From Hobart we continued to Swansea on the east coast. Activities on the east coast includes: Coles Bay, Day at beach and a Freycinet N.P. walk to the beautiful Wineglass Bay in pouring rain.
It kept pouring down for days so we found some indoor activities in Launceston. On the way we passed Mt. Elephant pancake barn(yummi!), and in Launceston the Jailhouse steakhouse. We watched Along came polly to get the rainny hours to pass. Another great rain activity is the Roman baths they are really good. It takes two hours to go through all the different hot-rooms and baths in the suggested order. We felt really good after half a day there. It kept raining so we found more books in second-hand bookshop and read and read and read....
